Phenology

With the Phenoclim programme, the researchers of CREA and the volunteers attentively monitor the development of several plants (dates for the bud burst, flowering, foliation and change of leaf colour) and animals (reproduction and migration dates) throughout the seasons.

The special characteristics of each species are rigorously studied, over the long term and in a variety of regions and habitats. The synchronisation or desynchronisation of animal annual cycles with the plant cycles are monitored in order to anticipate potential landscape changes in the years to come.

Phenology is the study of the seasonal events occurring for each living being.

Questioning the rhythms of nature

The data collected in the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Jura, the Vosges, the Massif Central and Corsica allow researchers to better understand how ecosystems function in each season and to study the effects of climate variations on Nature around us.
